VBArchive V1.0 (c) 1994 by Bob Pearson Jr All Rights Reserved. ABOUT VBArchive VBArchive is a utility that I use to backup my Visual Basic source code during project development. As I used it more, I added features, and improved the usage. It will use PKZip to zip all the files in your project directory, and save them in a sub directory under your project sub directory. It will assign a version number to it and then create a text file called VERSION.BAS and store that version number to the file as a VB constant. Note: This program uses PKZIP.EXE. It must be in your path statement for this application to work correctly. It is also recommended that you use PKZIP v2.04G or later. Do not use PKZIP v2.04C. There were some problems using this version as a shell under Windows. INSTALLING VBArchive After unzipping the download, (which, if you are reading this, you know how to do) run SETUP.EXE from windows. This will put the necessary files where they need to be, and create a program group and icon. After this step, just double click on the VBArchive icon to run. USING VBArchive The first thing that you need to do is select a MAK file to archive. To do this, select FILE|OPEN. Find the project that you want to archive and click on OK. Then you will need to set your options. Select OPTIONS|STORE TO. This will let you specify the sub directory name that you want to store the ZIP file to. Please Note: This directory will be created under your project directory. (Example: Project Directory: C:\PROJECT. The archive directory would be C:\PROJECT\ARCHIVE.) After that, select OPTIONS|VERSION. You can choose to save the version to a text file or not. If you choose no, the archive file name will be the current date & time. if you choose yes, you can specify what you want the constant named, the default being VERSION. Then choose how many places after the decimal you want the version to be. The maximum is 5 places. Then enter the starting version number. This is useful when you jump from version to version, such as Version 1.2 to Version 2.0. Then select OK. This will bring you back to the main screen. Click on ARCHIVE|ARCHIVE, and your entire project directory will be zipped and stored in your archive sub directory. To exit VBArchive, select FILE|EXIT. That's all there is to it!
